The Funeral Party
Before the blue box, London and the wedding–there was the funeral party. Leigh stood at Oakhurst burial grounds, inches from the mound of fresh earth where underneath, Harvey Weintraub resided. She fixed her gaze across the way, where she hoped Stuart would be standing, but he wasn’t there. She trailed along the faces, then stopped on a young man stood off to the side. He took her in with a curious intent that left her feeling naked and exposed. A chill swept through her body; she dropped her gaze and fastened the top button of her jacket.
When she dared another look, he was gone, disappeared into a sea of black suits, grey dresses and long tear-streaked faces.
She was a stranger, in a strange place, surrounded by Harvey’s family and loved ones, yet all she could think of was Stuart.
